The Kids That Count

From left to right: Christopher William van Damme, Charles Guislain, Sonny Groo, Aynouk Tan and Jean-Paul Paula.

On doing the usual morning routine of checking mail, reading blogs and looking at my facebook. I spotted a link of Sonny... knowing it would be well worth taking a peek... I did. It was the link to the JAK & JIL blog (AMAZING BLOG TAKE A PEEK) I seen the picture and thought WOW I wanna be in their gang...What look my interest the most was seeing the 53 comments below.. . Absolutly gripped for about an hour reading through, some positive and some negative. And naturally I had to have a rant...

"OMG… I wanna be in their gang! They look amazing and the fact they have provoked so many positive and negative comments only pays tribute to their style. And as for CHARLES GUISLAIN I hope he is really young because more power to him for having such a stunning sense of style at such an age!
They have rocked up to fashion week and probably been the most photographed people, somehow I don’t think that’s because they look ridiculous.
These are the kids that count!"

After doing some research I found that the boy wonder CHARLES is 15..AMAZING! And so I finish this post saying keep up the good work and we look forward to MYKROMAG.

Notion Magazine... The Hipster Handbook

This is my first published shoot as a Photographer...Woo hoo.

After graduating last summer I kind of felt a bit deflated till I recieved a message from the lovely ALEXIS KNOX a stylist at Notion Magazine... She had seen my work at Graduate fashion week and liked what I do...which was really cool. And so late last year we shoot the story in the office of the magazine.

The story was for a fashion designer MAKIN JAN MA and his " you are my milky way" collection. The collection is cool with clashing graphic prints and some really nice pieces like the shiny black suit seen above.

Stylist: Alexis Knox
All Clothes : Makin Jan Ma
Model : Florian p @ M&P Models
Make up : Holly Silius

I Love Edie...

I LOVE people watching and finding inspiration in all kinds of individuals. They don't necessarily have to be COOL in fact the more these people are deemed socially UNCOOL the more I LOVE THEM...Thats why I LOVE Edie from Gray Gardens.

KEEP FASHION TIDY

Cling film, coke cans and cellotape not the usual tools you would expect to find backstage at Paris Fashion week...Until recycling meets Haute Couture Fashion at the Alexander McQueen show.

Recycle, reuse, reborn, revamp was theme of the show. The catwalk was made up from parts of past productions and the collection echoed this with old meets new designs. Nice to see even McQueen is doing his bit during the credit crunch!

I HEART GRACE JONES

“I’VE ALWAYS BEEN A REBEL. I NEVER DO THINGS THE WAY THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO BE DONE. EITHER I GO IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OR I CREATE A NEW DIRECTION FOR MYSELF, REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE RULES ARE OR WHAT SOCIETY SAYS.” (source The World of Grace Jones

For as long as I can remember I have always loved and been inspired by Miss Grace Jones. I was an eighties child and grew up listening to my mums Grace Jones albums.
This Christmas I brought me and mum tickets to see her Hurricane tour at the Manchester Apollo. The show started with a band called TRYBEZ... their music is a mixture of hip hop, soul and latin a nice mix but they looked awful... stylist needed I think. When they finished Paulo the lead singer introduced "The Hurricane Miss Grace Jones" as his mum... it was a really lovely moment. Then the the first beats of Nightclubbing started and she appeared on a high platform.
The production was minimal but amazing...she had slight costumes change for every song with Philip Tracey on hand with head dresses and amazing creations. Any way I have been listening to her Private Life album a lot recently and thought I'd share the love....so enjoy.

"The guy deserves it..he's a genius"

So i gather its quite early on my blog life to me making reference to great blogs like stylefile.com...But on reading this post this morning i felt i had to state my opinion, as its healthy to have your own opinions. And seen as my blog title is WHY NOT...i thought why not.

The post makes reference to Olivier Theyskens collection for Nina Ricci as being one of the "downs" of the first day's of full shows in Paris...HELLO are you mad the collection is stunning from the cool caps to the killer heels...Love it...Love it and even more love the fact that Anna Christensen from The Times gave Olivier a one women standing ovation stating "the guy deserves it he's a genius". I say go girlfriend and go Olivier we heart you!

Ok so here it goes...this blog has been one year in the making and nearly seen me in therapy! Not because I cant find anything worth while blogging about but more to the point the first time had to be special.....And so what better way to start than with this cool and beautiful video by Ruth Hogben's produced for Gareth Pughs collection.

Gareth Pugh from Purple Magazine on Vimeo.

Yes..fashion on film, not a new concept but I think its taken a designer such as Gareth and his trade mark silhouette's to break away from the conventional...well treaded catwalks.
